Pirogues. These fishing boats vary in size. Larger boats are fitted with motors while smaller ones are powered using oars. Tourists who can afford the gas may troll for fish, but more commonly local fishermen rely on these decorated workboats to bottom fish or to deploy traps. Along beaches they are used to unfurl fishing nets 100 meters (325 feet) long from one point to another after which a group of 5 to 20 people positioned at each end will haul in the catch.
